I had problems with installing the client because of OpenDNS OpenDNS so I turned off "of having a single block of IP 'and everything went great!
CAT5e cable is great, but after an upgrade to CAT6, LAN file transfer was a bit 'faster.

The reason I bought this expensive server was only for storage, and media power, so the media server. Set up was painless and quick. It fits perfectly on my desk. Works with all operating systems, but with a catch.
First of all, to set this work with Mac OSX, is the first time on a Windows OS. Once this is done by the installation of Mac and simply follow the instructions. Configures itself automatically with iTunes, but if you want all Macs and PCs to see your music, then you should consolidate your music on the server. That way, when you buy songs from iTunes, the song will automatically transfer to the server to update your library to any Mac and PC use.
When I upgraded from an extremely slow and not expandable NAS, I had great hopes for the HP MediaSmart ex485, and if I'm behind the set-up problems, the server has fulfilled very well.
